Join our dynamic automotive design team as a Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in automotive interior trims. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in 3D CAD modeling and plastic component design to create innovative, high-quality hard and soft trim solutions that enhance vehicle aesthetics and functionality. Your contributions will directly impact product development cycles and manufacturing feasibility, collaborating with global teams and leading industry OEMs to deliver cutting-edge interior components. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your skills in a fast-paced, on-site environment in Bangalore, driving excellence in automotive trim design.
• Design and develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for automotive interior trim components using CATIA V5.
• Create and refine hard trim components including instrument panels, door trims, floor consoles, pillars, scuff plates, and quarter/lift-gate trims.
• Develop soft trim components such as headliners, carpets, dash insulators, and firewall insulators, ensuring integration with overall vehicle design.
• Perform part modeling, assembly design, surfacing, and drafting aligned with product design specifications and standards.
• Conduct thorough design reviews and collaborate with global technical teams to finalize robust and manufacturable design solutions.
• Execute packaging, manufacturing, and assembly feasibility studies to validate design practicality and efficiency.
• Ensure designs meet plastic injection molding requirements, material specifications, and adhere to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
• Manage component design releases, engineering change management, and milestone deliverables through PLM systems.
• Coordinate effectively with suppliers, OEMs, and cross-functional teams to streamline product development and resolve design challenges.
• Support component and system-level validation activities focusing on durability, noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance.
• Perform benchmarking and continuous design improvements to meet or exceed quality and performance benchmarks.
• Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards, project requirements, and strict delivery timelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4 to 8 years of professional experience in mechanical design, specifically in automotive interior trim component development.
• Proficiency in CATIA V5 including part design, assembly design, surfacing, and drafting.
• Strong expertise in designing both hard trim (instrument panels, door trims, floor consoles, pillars, scuff plates, quarter trims) and soft trim components (headliners, carpets, dash/firewall insulators).
• Demonstrated experience in plastic injection molding processes and plastic component design.
• Skilled in 3D CAD modeling and creation of detailed 2D engineering drawings.
• In-depth knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) methodologies.
• Experience conducting manufacturing and assembly feasibility studies.
• Familiarity with PLM systems and managing engineering change processes.
• Comprehensive understanding of automotive materials, product development lifecycle, and component validation including durability and NVH.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills for effective collaboration with suppliers, OEMs, and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Bangalore.
• Experience working within a global automotive supply chain environment.
• Knowledge of engineering standards and regulatory requirements specific to automotive interior components.
• Exposure to advanced materials and emerging technologies in automotive trims.
• Prior involvement in end-to-end product development projects within the automotive sector.
